The Southeast Memphis Community Development Corporation and the University of Memphis will host the first in a series of quarterly community safety briefings Monday, Sept. 25, at 6 p.m. at the Hickory Hill Community Center, 3910 Ridgeway Road.
This briefing will update residents on the success of the Police Department's “Blue CRUSH” initiative to reduce crime in Hickory Hill and surrounding neighborhoods. With declining crime rates, residents will have the opportunity to learn how Blue CRUSH has been implemented and what needs to be done to meet remaining challenges.
Among those attending will be Dewey Betts, deputy chief for Investigative Services; Major Dave Martello, commander of the Mt. Moriah (East) Precinct; and Mike Smith, deputy chief of Uniform Patrol District 1.
This briefing is open to the public, and all persons interested in the future of Southeast Memphis are encouraged to attend.
The event is part of an ongoing series of community meetings with residents, the Southeast Memphis Community Development Corporation, the faith community, public agencies, the U of M, and non-profit agencies.
