of M Will Observe Homecoming Week Oct. 16-21

The
first Homecoming of the new millennium brings a busy schedule
of activities to The University of Memphis campus. Events
include:
- Monday,
Oct. 16: The Alumni Association hosts its sixth annual
Homecoming Golf Classic at the Southwind Tournament Players
Club. Registration begins at 10 a.m., with tee-off at 11
a.m. A reception follows at 4:30 p.m. Tournament proceeds
will benefit The U of M’s Celebrate 2000 Legacy Scholarship
program.
- Thursday,
Oct. 19: Alumni Association Life Members will be recognized
at a reception the president’s home at 5:30 p.m. This
event is by invitation only.
- Friday,
Oct. 20 & Saturday, Oct. 21: Alumni who graduated
50 years ago or more gather for a two-day reunion. Friday
evening will feature dinner and a ceremony inducting them
into the Half-Century Club. Other weekend activities include
tours of the Ned McWherter Library and the U of M Art Museum,
a performance of "Sweeney Todd" at the U of M
Theatre, and the homecoming football game.
- Saturday,
Oct. 21: Greater Memphis Alumni Chapter luncheon on
the Alumni Mall, 12:30 p.m., with food, music and visits
from Tiger mascots Pouncer and Tom II. Former U of M athletes
also will make appearances.
That
evening at 7, the Tigers take on Conference USA rival Houston
at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. For game tickets, call 678-2331.
