Renowned
China historian Jonathan Spence will discuss the relationship
between China and the rest of the contemporary world on Friday,
Oct. 20, at 8 p.m. at Fogelman Executive Center. The talk
is free and open to the public.
The
lecture will explore the different ways in which China's history
and experiences affect the country today. Spence, a professor
of history at Yale University, is the author of more than
a dozen books on Chinese history and culture. Some, such as
The Death of Woman Wang, are popular sellers outside scholarly
markets. His most recent publication is a biography of Mao
Zedong.
The
University of Memphis Faculty Senate is sponsoring the talk.
