Attend
the Herff College of Engineering's open house and you can
experience the thrill of being in the cockpit of a U.S. Navy
Blue Angels F/A-18 Hornet. The free event will be held Friday,
Nov. 21, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Herff College on
the University of Memphis campus.
The
simulator offers realistic, supersonic flight and cutting-edge
entertainment technology. Rides provide a pilot's perspective
with all the sights, sounds and experiences of up-close flying.
The 65-foot, 80,000-pound vehicle carries a custom-built,
15-seat motion pod with state-of-the-art digital projection
and audio systems.
In
addition to the flight simulator, visitors can learn more
about the impact engineers have on society and research being
conducted at the Herff College. Tours may be arranged for
groups. Faculty, staff and current students will be on hand
to answer questions and discuss specific engineering programs.
