Antonya Nelson Will Open U of M's River City Writers Series Feb. 2-3

The River City Writers Series at the University of Memphis will open its spring season with a visit by author Antonya Nelson on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 2 and 3. On Feb. 2 at 8 p.m., Nelson will hold a reading of her work in the Fogelman Executive Center, Room 123. A book-signing and refreshments will follow. On Feb. 3 at 11:30 a.m., she will talk with students in Patterson Hall, Room 456. At 5:30 p.m., Nelson will conduct a writing workshop in Patterson Hall, Room 403. Nelson is the author of four short story collections, including Female Trouble, Family Terrorists, In the Land of Men, and The Expendables. She has also published three novels: Living to Tell, Nobody's Girl, and Talking in Bed. She has received a National Endowment for the Arts grant, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and the Rea Award. The New York Times named her one of "20 young fiction writers for the new millennium." The River City Writers Series is sponsored by the Student Activities Council, the English Department, the Creative Writing Club, Sigma Tau Delta, the Hohenberg Foundation, Deborah Talbot, Academic Enrichment Funds, Public Service Funds, and Friends of the University Libraries.
