Scholarship Week Will Celebrate Achievements of U of M Faculty

Faculty Scholarship Week, sponsored by Friends of the University Libraries, will be observed April 15-19 at the University of Memphis.  The event will celebrate the quality and quantity of scholarship produced by U of M faculty members, including books, articles, CDs, films, and works of art.  The week coincides with Spring Convocation, at which the University honors faculty members for outstanding achievement in teaching, research and engaged scholarship.

Events planned for Faculty Scholarship Week include:

April 15, 7:30 p.m., Harris Concert Hall – recital by Victor Santiago Asuncion, piano, and Susanna Perry-Gilmore, violin

April 16-18, McWherter Library Rotunda – display of traditional and computer scholarship from U of M faculty, including work by the most recent TAF (Technology Access Fee) award winners, sponsored by the Advanced Learning Center

April 16, noon, McWherter Library Rotunda – “Partners for Positive Parenting: University Interns in the Community,” a talk by Dr. Dixie Crase, director of University internships

April 17, noon, McWherter Library Rotunda – “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of American Health Care: A Conversation on Urgent Health Care Issues,” by Dr. Cyril Chang, director of the Methodist Le Bonheur Center for Healthcare Economics

April 18, noon, McWherter Library, Room 226 – illustrated talk by Dr. Beverly Bond, professor of history and director of African and African-American Studies, on the book she co-authored, Beale Street

7:30 p.m., Harris Concert Hall – “The Swing Era Begins!” by the Faculty Jazz Players and Dance Troupe

April 19, 1:30 p.m. – Faculty processional to Rose Theatre

2 p.m., Rose Theatre – Spring Convocation with awards presentations

3:30-4:30 p.m., Rose Theatre – Reception and display of traditional and computer scholarship from U of M faculty, including work by the most recent TAF (Technology Access Fee) award winners, sponsored by the Advanced Learning Center

5:30 p.m., University Holiday Inn – Great Conversations dinner with more than 20 faculty scholars from the College of Arts and Sciences (Reservations required by April 12; $75 fee; by phone at 901-678-1435 or online at:  cas.memphis.edu/conversations)
