The
deadline is less than two weeks away for students to apply
for the new statewide HOPE Scholarship, funded by the Tennessee
Lottery. May 1 is the deadline for high school graduates and
current college students to file the FAFSA (Free Application
for Federal Student Aid) in order to be considered for the
HOPE Scholarship.
Students
who qualify for HOPE Scholarships could receive up to $3,000
per year for attendance at four-year institutions, $1,500
a year for attendance at two-year institutions. The exact
amount will depend on revenue generated by lottery ticket
sales. Eligibility depends on student grades and other requirements.
The
scholarship may be used at any Tennessee public college or
university, or any Tennessee private college or university
that is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges
and Schools. The award is renewable for three years if the
recipient maintains the required grade point average.
The
FAFSA is available on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov
