LEVEL I (MUSE 4802/6802) 3 HOURS CREDIT
For anyone with musical training who wishes to acquire basic knowledge and pedagogic
foundations in the Orff Schulwerk approach. Recommended for persons with no previous
two-week training course.
Study of basic Orff techniques, including use of the pentatonic, the simple bourdun,
the ostinato, and elemental forms: basic body movements and their application to the
Schulwerk; soprano recorder; vocal and rhythmic training; and improvisation.
LEVEL II (MUSE 7103) 3 HOURS CREDIT
For those who have satisfactorily completed a Level I course. Persons wishing to
enroll in this course must include a summary of training and experiences with the
workshop Application Form.
Study of all the pentatonic scales, review of simple and moving borduns; I-V and I-IV-V
accompaniments; explanation of rhythmic training and continuation into irregular rhythms
and meters; vocal, movement, and instrumental improvisation; soprano and alto recorder.
MASTERCLASS (MUSE 7214-201) 2 HOURS CREDIT
Advanced music pedagogy based on modern Orff Schulwerk principles; orchestration in
the elemental style; advanced techniques on the Orff instrumentarium; movement, aleatoric
techniques, pedagogy of choral singing and dancing; study of different forms of improvisation;
analysis of ethnic styles; structure for designing Level courses; composition assignments.
