Vocal Arts

The Vocal Arts Division offers instruction for those seeking to develop skills as singers with a classical singing technique. The curricula and course offerings are designed to develop technical and artistic abilities in performance and to encourage interpretive, creative and scholarly expression. Such preparation enables students to be competitive in music careers and related fields and to continue study at an advanced level.

Ensembles include University Singers, Opera Theater Workshop, Chamber Choir, Contemporary Chamber Players and Collegiate Choir. U of M vocalists perform throughout Memphis and the surrounding region in productions by organizations such as Opera Memphis, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Theatre Memphis and Playhouse on the Square. The Vocal Arts Division offers the Bachelor of Music, the Master of Music, the Doctor of Musical Arts degrees as well as the Artist Diploma.
