A new University of Memphis television commercial features the voice of actor and former U.S. Senator Fred Thompson, who is also a 1964 graduate of the U of M.

Thompson agreed to voice the commercial during a March visit to campus as part of the University’s Centennial celebration.

“We never even considered another voice for this project,” said Linda Bonnin, vice president for Communications, Public Relations and Marketing at the U of M.  “His voice is so rich and recognizable.”

Thompson recorded his voice-over in May at a studio in Arlington, Va. The 30-second commercial is now airing on local television and during U of M athletic broadcasts.  Sullivan Branding of Memphis assisted with production. 

“I think it does a beautiful job of tying the University to the city of Memphis, which was one of our objectives,” said Bonnin.
