The Memphis Area Master Gardeners and the University of Memphis will team up to host
the first Let’s Grow Garden Expo Saturday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the TIGUrS
Urban Garden located adjacent to the Elma Roane Fieldhouse on campus. The family-friendly,
fun-filled event is open to campus and the public.
The Expo will feature workshops on garden and environmental topics, including raised
garden beds, fall and winter gardening tips, compact gardens and urban composting.
There will be garden demonstrations and a “garden jumble” rummage sale of new and
used gardening supplies, patio items and plants.
The Green Bus, a mobile grocery store option for residents of Memphis in areas where
supermarkets aren’t available, will also be open for viewing. The concept for the
bus, which offers fresh and healthy food items, was partly created by students and
faculty in the U of M’s Graduate Program in City and Regional Planning in the School
of Urban Affairs and Public Policy.
“This event is a hands-on, fun learning experience for anyone interested in gardening,”
says Karyl Buddington, co-founder of the TIGRuS urban garden. Buddington is looking
for donations for the “garden jumble” yard sale; contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
