The University of Memphis will hold its annual Works in Progress Symposium (WIPS)
Wednesday, Nov. 7, from noon to 5 p.m. in the University Center. The symposium recognizes
the significant contributions to research by undergraduate students and provides a
means for them to share their research with their peers and with all the University
community.
Undergraduates who have conducted an original research, scholarly or creative project
under the guidance of a faculty mentor are invited to submit an application to WIPS.
The symposium also welcomes presentations by students who are just beginning projects,
and thus affords students the opportunity to present the background, rationale, plans,
and preliminary results from a project that is ongoing rather than complete.
Works in Progress presenters are grouped into three broad categories: social science
and professions, science and engineering, and arts and the humanities. Each student
will make a 15-minute oral presentation, which will be followed by a five-minute discussion
period.
