University of Memphis President Shirley Raines has received the Woman of Achievement
Award from Women in Higher Education in Tennessee (WHET). Raines accepted the award
at the organization’s 32nd annual conference recently at Cumberland University in
Lebanon, Tenn.
The Woman of Achievement Award is presented to a dedicated leader who has earned admiration
and respect, has vision and leads by example, faces challenges with grace and courage,
and lives with dignity, integrity and honor.
“It was a thrill to be recognized by the Women in Higher Education with their Woman
of Achievement Award,” said Raines. “I accepted it on behalf of the many outstanding
women leaders on the University of Memphis faculty, staff, and in our administration. I
also served as a mentor for WHET officers for a number of years to encourage them
to seek advancement in their careers on public and private campuses throughout Tennessee.
We want to keep the many talented leaders in WHET in higher education in Tennessee.”
Recipients of the Woman of Achievement award must be nominated by a female student,
faculty, staff, or alumna of an institution of higher education in Tennessee.
