U of M Will Offer Summer Aerospace Workshop for Teachers

For release: May 1st, 2013
For press information, contact Bonnie Cummings, 901-678-5356

The Basic Aerospace Workshop at the University of Memphis lets local teachers learn more about aviation science during their summer break.

Set for June 3-21, the workshop covers aviation and space technology and is open to K-12 teachers and administrators in public and private schools in West Tennessee. It is funded by a grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation. There are eight scholarships available.

Tuition is free, and participants earn three hours of undergraduate or graduate credit and two hours of flight instruction at a local airport. Teachers in the annual workshop will attend daily classes at the U of M and take field trips to aviation sites and facilities.

The goal of the workshop is to develop an understanding of aerospace concepts and skills, to explore the role of aerospace technology in Tennessee, and to provide teachers with resources for classroom instruction and information about aerospace careers.

Applications are due by May 10. For an application or more information, contact Bonnie Cummings at 901-678-5356 or bjcmmngs@memphis.edu.
