Dr. A. Stephen Lenz, assistant professor in the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research at the University of Memphis, is one of three professors who received the Outstanding Research Award from the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling (AARC).

Lenz worked with authors Dr. Richard Balkin of Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi

and Dr. Michelle Perepiczka of Walden University on the article “Evidence for the Mitigating Effects of a Support Group for Attitudes toward Statistics,” published in the journal Counseling Outcome Research and Evaluation.

The article was the result of a large project to assess the effectiveness of a four-session peer

support group intervention with students in a doctoral counselor education program completing statistics coursework.

AARC is an organization of counselors, educators and other professionals who advance the counseling profession by promoting best practices in assessment, research and evaluation in counseling.
