The Confucius Institute at the University of Memphis (CIUM) will host a spring gala
showcasing the internationally acclaimed Hubei University Dragon and Lion Dance Art
Troupe on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the Michael D. Rose Theater on campus.
Hubei is CIUM’s partner university in China.
The event is free and open to the public. Free parking will be provided in the Zach
Curlin garage.
This is the second time in five years that the CIUM has brought this celebrated group
to the U of M for a performance. The troupe will be on a seven-city tour covering
Tennessee, Kentucky, Maryland, and the Washington, D.C., area.
“We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to bring this world-renowned performance
group to the Memphis area," said Dr. Hsiang-te Kung, CIUM director and U of M professor.
“This performance is a celebration of the CIUM's five-year anniversary, as well as
a celebration of the centennial of the University of Memphis. We will have a dragon
and lion dance performance as well as Chinese martial arts, acrobatics, dancing, and
much more."
