Herff College of Engineering Will Celebrate 50th Anniversary at Jubilee April 11

April 2, 2014 - The Herff College of Engineering at the University of Memphis will celebrate its Golden Jubilee Friday, April 11, at the Memphis Botanic Garden. A reception and silent auction will start at 6:30 p.m., followed by the dinner and program at 7:30 p.m. and dessert and entertainment at 8:30 p.m.

Joe Royer (BSCE '71, MS '75), a professional engineer turned entrepreneur, will be honored as Outstanding Alumnus. Royer is founder, co-owner and president of Outdoors Inc. An avid mountain climber, cyclist and kayaker, he established the Outdoors Inc. Canoe & Kayak Race. Royer helped plan and design the canoe and kayak whitewater course for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. He also has worked for the Shelby County Health Department and served as vice president of Hayden-Wegman Engineers of New York City.

Herff Honor Awards for Distinguished Service will be presented to: Ring Companies; Don Colvin, vice president of properties and facilities for FedEx; Doug Cook, vice president of operations planning and engineering for FedEx; and posthumously to Theopolis Holeman and Edward F. Williams III. Faculty and staff awards also will be presented.
