The University of Memphis Creative Writing Master of Fine Arts Program will host the
second installment of a series of readings by its candidates for the MFA degree on
April 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Burke’s Books, 936 South Cooper St. The “Working Title Reading
Series” will feature readings by Scott Carter, Devon Taylor and Tara Mae Mulroy.
Carter received the Concentration Award in fiction. Recently he was a finalist in
Narrative magazine’s “30 Below” competition. His collection of horror stories, The Stories of Scotty Carter, Age 11, was published in 1996 by his grandmother, and was hailed by his cousin as “pretty
twisted.”
Taylor serves as the senior nonfiction editor for The Pinch literary journal. She hails from north of the Mason-Dixon Line and thinks “Yankee”
is a compliment. Once upon a time she worked as an attorney. Her work is forthcoming.
Mulroy is the managing editor of the spring 2012 issue of The Pinch. Her work has been published or is forthcoming in Crab Creek Review, the Los Angeles Review, Grist: The Journal for Writers, and other publications. Her blog can be found at taramaemulroy.wordpress.com
