Our Program

The University of Memphis offers intensive English language study for university-bound students as well as others who wish to become proficient in English. Our Daytime Intensive English Program offer five 8-week sessions during the academic year with starting dates in January, March, May, August and October. We provide reading, writing, grammar, listening, and speaking through small, interactive classes.
We offer three levels of instruction: basic, intermediate, and advanced. New students are tested at the beginning of each session and placed in the appropriate level. Full-time students study 23 hours per week. F-1 students must enroll full-time; students who do not have an F-1 visa may attend full- or part-time.
For learners seeking a more flexible schedule, IEI also offers an Evening English Language Program. Evening classes meet in person on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00–8:00 p.m. and focus on practical communication, pronunciation, writing, and workplace English. These six-week courses are ideal for professionals, community members, and other learners who wish to improve their English while balancing work and personal commitments.
Both programs provide high-quality instruction, personalized support, and opportunities for cultural engagement within the University of Memphis community.
