Study Abroad Program

The Sport, Commerce, & Culture in the Global Marketplace Study Abroad Program is intended to provide those advanced undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in global sport business, international management, marketing and media, tourism, event management, and policy a first-hand experience in, and a thorough understanding of, the rapidly expanding global marketplace. Over a two week period (July 14 - 29, 2014), students will experience sport management and culture in both Dublin, Ireland and London, England. From an academic perspective this program offers students opportunities to gain a firsthand experience at various facilities, clubs, universities, and other sport organizations.

Students can earn 6 hours of course credits (2 courses) toward their degree. The two week study abroad component will be preceded by assigned course readings, preparatory assignments, and online discussion groups through the University’s eCourseware system. The trip will include: (a) formal lectures delivered by guest scholars; (b) lectures from leading global executives along with daily field visits to multinational enterprises involved in the management of global sport products (e.g., Croke Park and the Gaelic Athletic Association, the National Aquatic Center and the Irish Sports Council, Aviva Stadium, Leinster Rugby Club, Na Fianna Gaelic Sports Club, Olympic Park, Lord’s Cricket Arena, Wimbledon, Chelsea FC, the English Premier League, Octagon Sports Agency, Arsenal FC); and (c) group discussions/debriefings led by University of Memphis faculty. Students will then complete comprehensive projects upon their return.
