The Cardiorespiratory/Metabolic Laboratory is fully equipped for the testing of isolated
nutraceuticals and dietary supplements in a controlled research environment. Our specific
focus is on testing antioxidant related dietary supplements in human subjects. However,
we have the capability to test a wide variety of nutrients and finished products,
in both humans and animals. Outcome measures typically include biomarkers of antioxidant
capacity (e.g., total antioxidant capacity, specific antioxidant enzyme activity),
oxidative stress (e.g., oxidized/reduced glutathione, protein carbonyls, malondialdehyde,
8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine, hydrogen peroxide, xanthine oxidase), cardiovascular function
(e.g., nitric oxide, homocysteine), and inflammation (e.g., C-reactive protein). Other
biomarkers of interest, as well as measures of physical performance, can be included
as outcome measures within the research design. If interested in discussing how we
can assist in designing a research study to investigate the effects of your particular
nutraceutical or dietary supplement, please contact:
