Giving Online to the Department of History

Did you know that you can make a gift online to the Department of History?

This is a fine way for you to give back to the department and assist current students seeking a degree in history.

Giving isn’t restricted to alumni. Anyone is welcome to give.

It’s fairly simple to make an online gift. Go to the Web site of The University of Memphis for giving online (you may also reach the site by clicking on the icon at the left labeled MAKE A GIFT). Before entering any information, check to make sure that you have actually reached the secure server of the Office of Development. The browser’s address bar should show that you have been redirected to https://umwa.memphis.edu/new_giving/index.php/donation and it should also be displaying an icon for a secure site — usually a lock that is closed: HTTPS lock icon

You will first be asked to enter the amount of your gift and to designate where you want your gift to go.

Giving to a listed activity

If you want to make a gift to the Department of History, click in the “radio button” in Area of Support labeled I would like to choose from a list of areas to support. You will then be asked in turn to:

  • select an area of support — select Colleges and Schools/Lambuth
  • select a designation area — select College of Arts and Sciences
  • select designation detail — select Department of History

At this point, the information in the form should look like:

Giving to a listed activity

You may then proceed to fill out the rest of the form.

Giving to an unlisted activity

If you want to give to an activity not listed, click on the “radio button” labeled I would like to give to a fund not listed here. You will then be asked to designate the fund. You need to identify the fund clearly. For example, to give to support the Dr Janann Sherman Undergraduate Award for the Study of Women’s History that was created to honor our former chair, type Dr Janann Sherman Fund.

At this point, the information in the form should look like:

Giving to an unlisted activity

You may then proceed to fill out the rest of the form.
