Dr. Warren Haggard Co-Edits Book
Dr. Warren O. Haggard, Professor and Chair of Excellence in the Biomedical Engineering
department, recently co-edited the book, Metal-on-Metal Bearings: A Clinical Practicum, ISBN 978-1-4614-8998-6. Dr. Haggard’s co-editors were Lynne C. Jones, PhD of Johns
Hopkins University and A. Seth Greenwald, D.Phil. (Oxon) of the Cleveland Clinic.
The book presents a historical overview and current research and clinical findings
for the use of metal-on-metal articulations. Haggard shared, “The goal for this book
by the three editors was to develop an educational book with limited but focused chapters
on Metal- on- Metal Hip Implants. We hope that this book will provide the orthopedic
surgeon or researcher a starting point to determine the best clinical approach for
their patient or the research background for this hip implant bearing couple.”
In addition, the book collects for the first time the information necessary to assess
clinically and biologically relevant patient outcomes, addresses the practical questions
that are raised by surgeon, researchers, and engineers, describes what the clinician
needs to know in order to practice evidence-based medicine, and projects directions
for clinical, biological and biomechanical research efforts. Metal-on-Metal Bearings: A Clinical Practicum will be available for purchase in January 2014.
