Gee History

The GEE program was started in 2004 through a grant from the Womens Foundation for a Greater Memphis. The original program was for middle school girls only and lasted two weeks. Since then, the program has expanded to include both middle and high school students and to develop a strong mentoring and leadership component along with the introduction to engineering. In addition to funding from the Womens Foundation, support now also comes from the Herff College of Engineering and the The Center for Intermodal Freight Transportation Studies.

Carolyn Mariano, Civil Engineering

"I like to draw, paint, play guitar, and scuba dive! I would eventually like to work as a structural engineer that designs earthquake-sustainable buildings. I would also like to use my skills to travel around the world and bring safe and sustainable structures to developing countries."
