Prior to 1989, the Engineering Library served as a depository for the U.S. Geological Survey. Tennessee and the bordering states of Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Kentucky were actively selected. Complete sets of topographic quadrangles for these states are now housed in the Department. When the Department became a regional federal depository in 1989, topographic maps for all state began to be received. Holdings are incomplete but growing.
