For release:  April 24, 2013

Dr. W. Glynn Mangold, a Ph.D. graduate from the Fogelman College of Business and Economics, is the recent recipient of the “Distinguished Researcher Award” conferred by the Murray State University Alumni Association.  The award is intended to recognize excellence in research and reflect the significance of faculty research to the educational environment at Murray State University.  Applications were evaluated on the basis of the significance, recognition and/or application of the research, as evidenced by publications, presentations, awards and external grants.

Having received his Doctor of Business Administration degree from the Fogelman College of Business and Economics in 1985, Dr. Mangold holds the title “Distinguished Professor of Marketing and Emerging Technologies” at Murray State University.  His research can be delineated into four separate streams:  (i) the marketing of services (on which his dissertation focused); (ii) emerging technologies and their role in marketing theory and practice; (iii) employee branding and human resource management; and (iv) the flow of retail trade.

Dr. Emin Babakus, Professor of Marketing & Supply Chain Management at FCBE, said, “Four of [Dr. Mangold’s] articles have been reprinted and marketed by Harvard Business Review to educators and practitioners as practically important literature. The impact of his research is not just academic; it is real, it is practical and it is actually useful. I know of few scholars whose research has both theoretical and practical significance.”

According to Harzing’s Publish or Perish, Dr. Mangold’s work has been cited more than 1,800 times.  His research consists of 52 peer-reviewed or editor-reviewed publications, one book, one case, seven instructional/training videos, and eight other non-refereed publications.
