The award recognizes Dr. Chisholm-Burns’ extensive contribution of more than 260 high-quality scientific papers and abstracts to the pharmacy field over the course of her career.

“It’s humbling,” stated Dr. Chisholm-Burns. “I’ve been fortunate to be involved with great people and organizations throughout my career, without whom I never would have made it to this point.”

A leader in every way, Dr. Chisholm-Burns recently completed the Fogelman College’s Professional MBA program in order to better relate to her students pursuing the Phar.D./MBA degree sponsored jointly by UT Health Science Center and University of Memphis. Dr. Chisholm-Burns says the experience has helped her make knowledgeable recommendations to students considering the program as well as helping her show current students how the degrees intercept.

Dr. Chisholm-Burns offered some advice that students of both colleges can take to heart:

“The MBA program taught me that change is going to happen,” she stated. “Change can be acted upon you or you can be part of the change. You have to keep reading, evolving and learning if you want to stay on top.”

She wants to incorporate this idea into pharmacy education as well, relating the emergence of online education as one instance where change is already occurring whether those at the top of the field are ready for it or not.

Dr. Chisholm-Burns’ award for sustained contributions to her field sets a fine example for students wishing to stay on the forefront of a changing pharmacy or business landscape.
