Dr. Rezaee’s Text “Corporate Sustainability” Wins Business Ethics Gold Axiom Award

Zabihollah Rezaee, Thompson-Hill Chair of Excellence and Professor of Accountancy at FCBE, was recently honored with a gold medal in the sixth annual Axiom Business Book Awards for his text “Corporate Sustainability: Integrating Performance and Reporting.” Please refer to the following Web site for additional information: http://www.independentpublisher.com/article.php?page=1641.

The Axiom Business Book Awards are intended to bring increased recognition to exemplary business books and their creators, with the understanding that business people are an information-hungry segment of the population, eager to learn about great new books that will inspire them and help them improve their careers and businesses.

Dr. Rezaee’s book introduces five dimensions of sustainability performance as economic, governance, social, ethical and environmental (EGSEE). The relative importance of these dimensions (EGSEE) with respect to each other and their contribution to the overall firm’s long-term value maximization is affected by whether these dimensions are viewed as complementary or conflicting factors. Sustainability performance dimensions can be seen as complementary because firms must be prominent financially in the long run to be able to perform well in terms of other sustainability activities (e.g., social and environmental activities). Firms that are economically profitable and viable are in better positions and have more resources to create jobs and wealth and better fulfill their social and environmental responsibilities. In addition, firms that are committed to CSR and environmental obligations and are governed effectively can also be sustainable in generating long-term financial performance.

Of the 394 books entered into the competition in 2012 only 21 gold medalists were award. Dr. Rezaee won the highest honor in the category of Business Ethics. His book, “Corporate Sustainability,” explores business sustainability and accountability reporting and their integration into strategy, governance, risk assessment, performance management and the reporting process. The text was co-authored with Ann Brockett.

Dr. Rezaee’s research is also ranked fourth in the nation base on the year of graduation (1985) according to an article published in “Issues in Accounting Education” by Hasselback et al.,“Benchmarking the Research Productivity of accounting doctorates”, November 2012, Vol.24, No. 4.
