English Undergraduate Degrees Online

The Department of English currently offers two exciting degree options for students interested in studying online. Students may pursue a BA in English with a concentration in either African American Literature or Professional Writing.

Degree requirements include the major requirements in addition to General Education and other academic requirements set by the University of Memphis. See the Undergraduate Catalog for more information.

ENGLISH MAJOR [27 HOURS]
*ENGL 3500 adn ENGL 3603 are not applicable towards major or minor.
*ENGL RODP courses are only applicable towards English Elective(s).

CORE REQUIREMENTS [12 hours]
ENGL 3210: Brit Lit to 1750
ENGL 3220: Brit Lit since 1750
ENGL 3327: American Lit to 1790

Choose one Core Elective:
ENGL 3604: Persuasive Writing
ENGL 4602: Advanced Composition
*Core Elective course does not double for concentration hours.

CONCENTRATION [12 HOURS]
*You must take all four courses within your chosen concentration, either Professional Writing (PW) or African American Lit (AALIT).

ENGL 3601: Technical and Professional Writing
ENGL 3602: Professional Writing/ Editing
ENGL 4619: Web Design/ Online Writing
ENGL 4602: Advanced Composition

African American Literature (AALIT)
ENGL 3325: Af/Am Lit thru Harlem Renaissance
ENGL 3326: Af/Am Lit since Harlem Renaissance
ENGL 4372: Af/Am Author/ Harlem Renaissance
ENGL 4373: Af/AM Author since Harlem Renaissance

ENGLISH ELECTIVE [3-9 hours]

3 hours Upper Division (UD) English required, may take up to 9 hours.
May take any ENGL UD course(s) including ENGL RODP.
