Revisit your love of books by participating in our
Department of English Book Club Series!
In 2012 the University of Memphis celebrated its Centennial with events all over campus
and in the Memphis community. As one of the original departments of the University,
we decided to celebrate our Centennial by focusing on something we all love - books.
We may not all like the same kinds of books and some of us may prefer to read books
while others prefer to write them, but at the end of the day, English faculty members,
current students, alumni and friends share a passion for the written word. We invite
you to share that passion with us by joining us for one of Book Club events.
We generally gather in the evening for refreshments and mingling before delving into
a faculty-led discussion of the book of the night. Although our faculty lead the
discussions, we encourage all to participate with questions, opinions and even disagreements
in true book club fashion. We also promise we won't give a quiz if you haven't read
the book! We are open to reading suggestions so if you don't see something you'd
like to talk about, let us know what your interests are and we'll do our best to accommodate
