Thomas W. Briggs Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award
Did you have a professor at the U of M who was an exceptional teacher? Nominations currently are being accepted for the 2008-09 Thomas W. Briggs Foundation’s Excellence in Teaching awards. The award was established by the Thomas W. Briggs Foundation to recognize outstanding undergraduate teaching and an overall commitment to undergraduate education.
Award nominees must be full-time faculty members at the University of Memphis and must be currently teaching undergraduate courses. You may download a nomination form by going to http://www.memphis.edu/briggs.htm. The nomination deadline is 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2009.
University of Memphis Alumni Association Distinguished Teaching Award
The Distinguished Teaching Award Committee is pleased to announce the finalists for the 2008/2009 Distinguished Teaching Award. Funded and sponsored by The University of Memphis Alumni Association, this award annually recognizes excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
As part of its final review process, the Distinguished Teaching Award Committee invites University of Memphis faculty, students, and alumni to submit letters in support of the finalists. Letters of support must be delivered to the University Honors Program Office in 204 Scates Hall or submitted electronically to the Distinguished Teaching Award Co-Chair, Melinda Jones, at email@example.com.

The Dallas Alumni Club is going out for a Tigers Night on the Town as the Men’s Basketball team travels to SMU on Wednesday, Feb. 4. Kick off the night with Memphis-style BBQ at the Dallas Club’s traditional pre-game spot, Red, Hot, & Blue at 6 p.m., then head to the 8 p.m. game. The University College Alumni Chapter is looking for applicants for its Spring 2009 Book Scholarship. Alumni Association Members Eligible for Scholarships
Students planning to enter the U of M in fall 2009 as first-time, incoming freshmen may apply for the Alumni Association Scholarship. The award is a four-year scholarship worth $1000/year ($500/semester). Family of Alumni Association members who have paid their dues anytime within the calendar year prior to the application deadline are eligible. The scholarship program encourages family of Alumni Association members to make the U of M their first choice for higher education. The Alumni Association will host its Vision Forum on Saturday, August 22, at the FedEx Institute of Technology on the U of M campus where the Alumni Association will report to all alumni and constituents on the State of the Association. More information to follow.
