“Take the M Train” to Awards Gala February 20

DAA 2009

 “Take the M Train” and join the Alumni Association for the Distinguished Alumni Awards on Friday, February 20, at 6:30 p.m.  Jump on board for a night full of True Blue fun in downtown Memphis at Central Train Station. Enjoy dinner, dancing and more as we celebrate our distinguished honorees.

U of M Graduate School Choices Will Be On Display March 2

Rose Theatre

A Graduate School Recruitment Fair will be held at the University of Memphis on Monday, March 2, from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Rose Theatre.

The fair will feature information about the U of M’s 23 doctoral degrees, 55 master’s degrees, 12 graduate certificates, and the Education Specialist degree. Persons who are considering graduate school can also talk with graduate faculty and current graduate students.

Information will also be available about financial aid, scholarships, and fellowships.  Applications for admission to the U of M Graduate School will be available and can be turned in on-site, if desired.

The event is free and open to the public.

Denver Alumni Club
The Denver Alumni Club will be hosting a Watch Party on Saturday, Feb. 21 as the Tigers travel to El Paso to take on UTEP.  The group will gather at its regular spot, The Blake Street Tavern at Coors Field, for an afternoon of Memphis-style fun.  The game tips-off at 2:00 p.m. MST and there will be plenty of food specials and beverage discounts for all Alumni Association members who attend.  For more information or to RSVP, please contact Alumni Coordinator Joe Biggers at J.Biggers@memphis.edu or 800/678-TRAX.

Chicago Alumni Club

New England Alumni Club

New York City Alumni Club

Atlanta Alumni Club

Alumni Association Members Eligible for Scholarships
Students planning to enter the U of M in fall 2009 as first-time, incoming freshmen may apply for the Alumni Association Scholarship. The award is a four-year scholarship worth $1000/year ($500/semester). Family of Alumni Association members who have paid their dues anytime within the calendar year prior to the application deadline of Friday, Feb. 27 are eligible. The scholarship program encourages family of Alumni Association members to make the U of M their first choice for higher education. UMAR Calvary Lenten Series

The University College Alumni Chapter is looking for applicants for its Spring 2009 Book Scholarship. Music Society
The Music Society invites alumni and recent grads to celebrate The Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music’s Jazz Week on Friday, March 6 at 6 p.m. with a complimentary Wine and Cheese Reception. Band Alumni Chapter

Mighty Sound of the South
The Mighty Sound of the South uniform jacket used from 1996-2007 has been retired and is now being made into one-of-a-kind commemorative throw pillows.  Each pillow will represent the front and back of the uniform jacket.  The cost is $45.00/pillow for current Alumni Association members, and $50.00/pillow for non-members.  All proceeds will go towards the Band Alumni Chapter.  Pillows are available now and going fast.  Order your pillow TODAY; only 100 are being produced, so quantities are limited.  To order, go to www.tigerbandalumni.com and click on the link to own a piece of history.

Lady Tigers Reunion
The University of Memphis Alumni Association and the University of Memphis Athletic Department are proud to be host the first Lady Tigers Reunion on April 3-4, 2009.  This reunion is for all former female athletes who have ever competed in a sport at the University or worked with an athletic team as a coach, manager, or trainer.  If you have been part of one of the teams at the U of M, please contact Charlotte Peterson with Women’s Athletics at 901/734-0262 or cepetrsn@memphis.edu for more information about the reunion.

Save the Date: Vision Forum
The Alumni Association will host its Vision Forum on Saturday, August 22 at the FedEx Institute of Technology on the U of M campus where the Alumni Association will report to all alumni and constituents on the State of the Association.  All out of town alumni who wish to participate will be able to via web conferencing. The University of Memphis Alumni Association would like to thank all of our current life and annual members. We are proud that membership is at an all time high.  The Association has set forth an ambitious goal for the year 2012 to have more than 10,000 members in the Association. We are on our way, but we need YOUR help to achieve this goal.

Annual membership to the Alumni Association is only $35/year. Your membership fees help fund student scholarships, faculty and staff awards, and many of University-wide events, such as Homecoming and the Distinguished Alumni Awards. Additionally, the nearly 65 clubs, chapters and areas of interest, both locally and nationally, help raise over $30,000 in scholarships for students in related fields.
