"True Blue Through and Through" will be the theme of the University of Memphis' basketball homecoming at noon, Saturday, Feb. 12, as the Tigers take on Tulane at FedExForum. With hopes that basketball homecoming will become a True Blue tradition, Student Government officials are spearheading the effort. Activities planned this year are geared toward students and student groups and include:
The student section will be there - loud and proud - and encourages alumni and Tiger fans to come out and make basketball Homecoming a slam dunk for the U of M.
- Lunch on the Alumni Mall Friday, Feb. 11
- Banner competition to be displayed at the FedExForum
- A game attendance competition for student groups
- Crowning of Homecoming King and Queen
- Fund-raising competition to benefit Up 'til Dawn and tsunami relief

Did you have a professor at the U of M who was an exceptional teacher? The Alumni Association and the Thomas W. Briggs Foundation are soliciting nominations for awards recognizing excellence in teaching. Honorees are recognized at the annual Faculty Convocation held at the end of spring semester.
Alumni who graduated within the last three years can nominate a former professor for the 2005 Alumni Association Distinguished Teaching Award , which recognizes and encourages excellence in teaching. Please go to the Distinguished Teaching Award Web site to make your nomination: https://css.memphis.edu/dta/ . The deadline for nominations is Friday, Feb. 18.
The Thomas W. Briggs Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award honors professors for outstanding undergraduate teaching and an overall commitment to undergraduate education. Award nominees must be full-time faculty members at the University of Memphis and must be currently teaching undergraduate courses. Past recipients are not eligible. The nomination deadline is 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 28.

The Herff College of Engineering will host its Annual Awards Dinner on Thursday, March 17, at the University Holiday Inn. Stephen P. Liberto will receive this year's Outstanding Alumnus Award, and Distinguished Service in Engineering Awards will go to George D. Barnes , Lee R. Nyman , James M. Phillips and Jeffrey E. Schryver . Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Alumni Chapter will host its annual alumni reception Thursday, March 17. The event will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Nashville Room of the Downtown Memphis Marriott during the Mid-South Conference on Communicative Disorders. The chapter will recognize the 2005 Outstanding Alumni of the Year and will honor the classes of '65, '70, '75, '80, '85, '90, '95 and 2000. Don't miss the 2005 Mid-South Indoor Percussion and Color Guard Competition on Saturday, March 5. Organized by the Band Alumni Chapter , the competition will begin at noon inside the Elma Roane Fieldhouse on campus. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 6 to 18, and children under 6 are free. All proceeds go to the Sidney J. McKay Fellowship.
