Raines Scholarship Information
Dr. Shirley C. Raines, president of the University of Memphis, has announced that she will retire from the U of M effective June 30 after twelve years of dedicated service. Click here to read more.
Led by Board of Visitors member Rita Sparks, friends of Dr. Raines invite you to make a gift in her honor.  Gifts of all amounts are welcome and the collective amount raised will be announced as a surprise to Dr. Raines on her last day in office.  Dr. Raines will be provided a list of individuals and organizations who make gifts in her honor, but not the amount of each gift.  Gifts may be designated to either of the two scholarships listed below or to any other designation campus-wide.

The Dr. Shirley C. Raines Scholarship (click here to make a gift to this fund)          Established by Brad and Dina Martin in 2012, the Dr. Shirley C. Raines Scholarship provides three scholarships annually to full-time undergraduates who are residents of West Tennessee and who intend to pursue a career in teaching. This is a university-wide scholarship.  Students from all colleges and schools within the university may apply. 

The Raines Family Scholarship (click here to make a gift to this fund)                     
The Raines Family Scholarship was established in 2009 by Harry and Beth Smith to honor the memory of Dr. Raines’ parents, Evelyn “Irene” Raines and James Athel Raines. The scholarship shall be given to students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in early childhood education within the College of Education.
