"In the past, public universities relied heavily on state resources to fund a sizeable portion of their budgets. However, over the last decade or so, contributions from our state have been significantly reduced, and public universities now must rely more on other resources for support. As a citizen of the State of Tennessee and a resident of Shelby County, I feel strongly about investing in public higher education. As an employee of the University of Memphis and an individual that supervises a budget at the University, I know our resources are limited. I give annually because I believe in the University and its mission. I, also, like that I can designate where to send my contribution. I see how contributions of any size directly support the students we serve. I know my contribution is valued and will impact services and programs in the area I designate."

"Giving back to the university is an investment in our students that keeps giving because it eventually yields accumulated returns to the community and future generations. It is similar to giving gifts to one's own family: it is from the heart and makes one feel good about doing good repeatedly. To give back to the university in many ways, including through consistent monetary donations and estate planning gifts, is a joy. I am pleased to be a consistent giver from the heart. Our university is a great place to work; our students are great people and our future. It is good to do right through consistent annual giving to the university."
