Chinese Bridge Summer Camp 2014

The 2014 Chinese Bridge Summer Camp for U.S. High School Students was an immersion camp sponsored by Hanban, the Confucius Institute Headquarters. This exciting two-week summer camp offered students a unique chance to experience China on a personal level.

The two-week summer camp took place from mid-July to the beginning of August. The camp was a wonderful opportunity for campers from high schools all over Tennessee to expand their horizon and have a first-hand experience in one of the fastest growing economies in the world. We look forward to offering the camp again next year. Click here for more information on next year's China Summer Bridge Program for High School Students.

Confucius Institute Offered Chinese Summer Camps

"Bringing China to Memphis"

Did you know that Mandarin Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world and the third most widely spoken language in the United States? Or that more people speak English in China than speak English in the United States? And that one-fifth of the world's population lives in China?

To assist in building bridges between the United States and China, and to promote Chinese language and culture, the Confucius Institute at the University of Memphis (CIUM) partnered with area schools to offer its fourth annual Chinese summer immersion camps.

Campers learned Chinese martial arts, participated in Chinese art classes, and learned more about the Chinese language and culture. Each summer camp included activities such as Tai Chi, dancing, calligraphy, sculpting, paper cutting, cooking demonstrations, and special performances.

The mission of the Confucius Institute at the University of Memphis is to promote the Chinese language and culture in Memphis, the Mid-South, and across the nation.

For more information about the CIUM or Chinese language and cultural programs please contact Riki Jackson, CIUM assistant director, at 901-678-3166 or visit www.memphis.edu/cium.
