Ellsworth Kelly
American (Newburgh, N.Y., 1923)
untitled
1982.001.007

This print is an example of Ellsworth Kelly’s interest in the dynamic relationship
among contour, form and color. The balanced intensity of red and blue and the curved
boundary between them create a perceptual contest revealing his unique version of
abstraction that is both analytical and sensual. Although often considered a minimalist,
Kelly’s vision derives from a lifelong interest in observing nature that frequently
lends his images a sense of organic vitality.
