Alumni Association Spotlight: Michael Joiner (JD '09)
Michael Joiner (JD '09) is an Associate with Rainey, Kizer, Reviere & Bell, P.L.C,
focusing primarily in the areas of litigation, employment law, insurance coverage,
and general insurance defense. Michael is licensed to practice law in Tennessee, Mississippi,
Arkansas, Alabama, Missouri, and the District of Columbia. Prior to his time at Cecil
C. Humpreys School of Law, Michael had several careers including time as a French
teacher, athletic director and truck driver. In law school, he received several scholarships
including the Evans & Petree Law Firm Scholarship in honor of Percy Harvey, the Judge
John D. Martin Scholarship as Chief Justice of the Moot Court Board, and the Ben F.
Jones Chapter National Bar Association Scholarship. Michael was a First Year Moot
Court Champion, and he won the Best Oral Advocate in Moot Court in the Tennessee Institute
Program. In addition, he held the position of Vice President of the Student Bar
Association and was a member of the Law Review.

After receiving his Juris Doctorate in 2009, the U of M Alumni Association provided
him with a complimentary year-long Associate membership into the Alumni Association.
Michael has continued to renew his membership annually.
Michael is always willing to volunteer with Memphis Law in addition to other interests,
including helping the regional board of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. His favorite pastime,
however, is spending time with his 11 year old daughter, Jamya.
