2012 Distinguished Teaching Award Nominations As a graduate of the U of M, you probably remember very fondly a professor who deserves
public recognition for the way he or she has helped you in your education. Nominate
your most deserving professor(s) for the 2012 Distinguished Teaching Award. For more

Atlanta Alumni Club Join the Atlanta Alumni Club at its upcoming Tiger Basketball Watch Parties. All alumni,

Young Alumni Committee The Alumni Association’s Young Alumni Committee will host a Happy Hour at Alchemy in Cooper Young on Tuesday, November 15, from 5-6:30 pm. Join fellow University of Memphis Young Alumni for an after-work
drink at the brand new restaurant, Alchemy Memphis. Mix and mingle, and debrief after
our super successful True Blue 5K. Invite potential Committee members to join us!

UMAR On Thursday, November 17, UMAR members and friends are invited to enjoy lunch at 11 am at the Woman’s Exchange Tea Room located at 88 Racine Street followed by a 1 pm guided
tour of the “Choosing to Participate” exhibition by Facing History and Ourselves at
the Benjamin L. Hooks Library at 3030 Poplar Avenue. Lunch is on your own and the

On Tuesday, November 29 at 11 am the UMAR Book Club will enjoy breakfast at Brother Juniper’s before discussing the literary work, The American Plague by Molly Caldwell Crosby. Author Molly Caldwell Crosby will be attending to discuss

On Wednesday, December 7 at noon UMAR members and friends are invited to enjoy favorites of the Christmas season by
Leroy Anderson as Calvary & the Arts welcomes Conductor Mei-Ann Chen and members of
the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and Christmas Pops at the Calvary Episcopal Church,
102 North Second Street in Downtown Memphis. The concert is free and lunch afterward
at Charlie Vergos’ Rendezvous is on your own. This event is always standing room only,

On Tuesday, December 13 UMAR’s annual Holiday Brunch, awards presentation and silent auction will take place in the University Center
Ballroom. Silent Auction proceeds go to endow the UMAR Memorial Scholarship fund.

Engineering Alumni Chapter The Herff College of Engineering Alumni Chapter is seeking nominations for its 2012 Outstanding Alumni Award recipient. This award will be presented to a deserving engineering graduate at the Engineering
Awards Dinner in the spring. Nominees should be graduates who have demonstrated outstanding
achievement in their personal and professional activities, academic pursuits, research
activities, service to the University or community involvement. Deadline for submission

The Herff College of Engineering Alumni Chapter will hold a Professional Development Luncheon on Wednesday, December 7 from noon to 1 pm at the Alumni Center (located at 635 Normal Street). The speaker
is alumnus Steven L Barry, P.E., (BSME '84) who is currently the Chief of Readiness at the Memphis District
office of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. His presentation will cover the historic
flood of 2011 and the operation of the Birds Point New Madrid Floodway north of New
Madrid, MO. The cost to attend this lunch is $5 for Alumni Association members and
$10 for not-yet members, and includes a boxed lunch and a certificate for one professional
development hour.

100 Years, 100 Women Women have inspired the University of Memphis throughout our century. Help us choose
one hundred who have influenced our success by nominating one who inspired you! In
honor of the Center for Research on Women’s 30th Anniversary and 100 years of The
University of Memphis, CROW, African and African American Studies, and the Department
of History will host an event celebrating 100 women who inspired our century. Their
achievements will be heralded throughout the evening, and their names will be remembered

New Benefit for Alumni and Students: Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Have an idea for a new business venture, but need assistance putting the details together?
The Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is a new service on the University
of Memphis campus that is available for all students and alumni free of charge. Beginning
with idea generation and continuing through product launch, they can help develop
