Kemmons Wilson School will operate as an independent school within U of M
The University of Memphis recently announced a strategic shift to operate the Kemmons
Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management (KWS) as an independent school
within the University. The KWS, which has been housed as a part of the Fogelman College
of Business & Economics (FCBE) for the past decade, will now have a unique opportunity
to serve its students with a more industry-driven curriculum.
“The Kemmons Wilson School has grown considerably in the last several years and, after 10 years of wonderful support from the FCBE, is ready to move toward autonomy,” said U of M Provost David Rudd. “This step will allow the school to focus on the unique demands of the rapidly evolving hospitality industry, along with local partnerships, growing the resort management side of the school, and a co-op effort at the Lambuth Campus. I have great confidence that the school will quickly rise to be a national leader.”

Scholarship will help students cross the finish line
The commercial real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield/Commercial Advisors has established a scholarship in the Fogelman College of Business & Economics to help deserving students make it across the finish line of their academic careers – the graduation stage.
The Finish Line Scholarships are specifically designed to assist students who have exhausted all other sources of funding and do not qualify for merit-based awards. Scholarships will be awarded as needed and preference will be given to students in their final semester and who are planning to live in Memphis after graduation. They are part of the U of M's Finish Line Program, which targets students with 90+ hours who are no longer enrolled but still interested in completing a college degree.
“Financial need is a serious problem for many students, especially at public, urban universities such as the University of Memphis,” said Dr. Rajiv Grover, FCBE dean. “These Finish Line Scholarships are significantly important because they allow hard-working students the ability to earn their degree despite financial challenges. It is a win-win for all parties involved – the students, the College and the Memphis community.”
