Alumni Spotlight: Sara Chiego (BM '81)
Sara Chiego was born in Lahore, West Pakistan, where her parents were teaching missionaries.
A transfer student from Northwestern University, she was attracted to the music background
and high academic level of the professors at the U of M Rudi E. Scheidt School of
Music. Sara says, "I have fond memories of small music history classes, drinking tea
and discussing nuemes and Josquin with Dr. Carol Fruchtman. I was also given the
opportunity at the University of Memphis to perform a concerto with the University
Orchestra, which was a once in a life time experience!"
Since then, she received her Master of Music in Performance from the University of
Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She has played with the Cincinnati Pops
Orchestra, the Dayton Symphony, and the Taft Chamber Players. During the summers she
has taught and performed at the Allegheny Summer Music Festival in Pennsylvania and
the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan.
