Professional Development Luncheon Wednesday, May 16, 12 noon, Alumni Center RSVP Online Greg Maxted (MS '90), Executive Director of the Harahan Bridge Project, will give
a presentation about the conversion of the Harahan Bridge in downtown Memphis to a
bicycle and pedestrian crossing. Click here to learn more about the project. The cost is $5 for Alumni Association members and
$10 for not-yet members. Lunch will be provided, and a certificate will be issued
to attendees for one professional development hour (PDH). For more information or

Recent Events
Engineering Outstanding Alumni Awards In early April, the Engineering Alumni Chapter presented its Outstanding Alumni Awards
at the Herff College of Engineering's annual awards banquet. The 2012 recipients were
Jim Dean (BSET '80), president of SeaWorld, Busch Gardens and Adventure Island, and
Mark Askew (BSCE '76), founder and president of Askew Hargraves Harcourt & Associates.
As part of the Chapter's celebration of the University's Centennial, all previous
recipients of this award were welcomed back for special recognition during the program.
The Chapter also held a Silent Auction before the dinner to benefit its book scholarship

Professional Development Luncheon Guests enjoyed a presentation by U of M alumnus Steven L Barry, P.E., (BSME '84) who
is currently the Chief of Readiness at the Memphis District office of the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers. His presentation covered the historic flood of 2011 and the operation
of the Birds Point New Madrid Floodway north of New Madrid, MO. Attendees received
1 professional development hour.
Student/Faculty/Alumni Mixer The Herff College of Engineering Chapter hosted a student/faculty/alumni mixer on

The deadline for the Engineering Chapter book scholarship has ended. Recipients will
